Family Connections Visits

Beginning in August, your child’s teacher will call you to arrange a 30-minute family connection visit.  This visit can be in your home or somewhere in the community.  The purpose of the visit is to provide an opportunity for teachers, students, and families to get to know each other in a familiar setting.  Teachers will be interested in learning more about your child's interests as well as your hopes and dreams for your child.  If your student is in Kindergarten, the family connection visit will take place during the first three days of school, September 3rd-5th.  Therefore, the first day of school for Kindergartners is September 8, 2014.

September 8, 2014 First Day for Kindergarten Classes

Kindergarten students’ first day of school is September 8, 2014.  The late start is based on the WA State Legislature passing a statute allowing schools the first three days for Family Connections visits between teachers and incoming Kindergarten students.  Therefore, Kindergarten parents can look forward to a meeting with your child’s Kindergarten teacher on September 3rd -5th.

Welcome Our New Assistant Principal, Liz McFarland
Hello! I am Liz McFarland and I am so excited to be the new Assistant Principal at Roxhill Elementary! I have been working in Renton as a Dean of Students at the middle school level and previously was an Elementary Asst. Principal in Bellevue. I taught Special Education classes for the majority of my teaching career where I focused mainly on behavior, learning disabilities, and Autism and have taught K-12 in a variety of settings. I grew up in New Orleans and then moved to Minneapolis for graduate school, then decided the extreme weather of both places wasn’t really appealing to me and moved to the more moderate climate of Seattle. I went to culinary school before going to college so I may bring in treats from time to time, as baking is my stress relief! I am so anxious to get to know all of you and your amazing students and I am confident it will be a great year! Please don’t hesitate to pop in anytime!

New Start Time for the 2014-2015 School Year
Dear Roxhill staff and families,
Seattle Public Schools has finalized bell times – our start and end times – for the 2014-15 school year.
Starting in the fall, our school will start at 9:30 and students will be dismissed at 3:40. This is slightly different than our current school year. For those students riding the bus, the arrival time at school will be 9:15 and the departure time after school will start at 3:50.
These bell times are a result of changes to transportation for the 2014-15 school year, which the School Board approved on Feb. 5. We know changing bell times is not ideal; however the District at one point had 27 different start times for schools and now has three standard start times. Creating streamlined start and end times will allow the District to save about $2.7 million in transportation costs.
The full list of bell times for all schools next year is posted online at:
Please let me know if you have any questions.
